We wanted to share this lovely email from an Advocate with the Free Public Advocacy Service who retired recently:
Kia ora,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’ve really appreciated my time with FPAS and am very grateful for the experience and everything I’ve learned while volunteering with you all.
It has been incredibly rewarding being able to meet and assist so many different people, and I know the experience I’ve gained will stay with me as I continue with my law studies and eventually move into practice.
I also have to say that our chats were genuinely one of my favourite parts of my time at FPAS. You have so much wisdom and experience to share, and I’ve always really enjoyed listening to your stories, advice and perspective on things. I’ve taken a lot away from those conversations and will definitely miss them.
It was a difficult decision to step away, but with work and university commitments I felt I could no longer give FPAS the time and commitment it deserves.
Thank you again for all of your support and encouragement, and for your very generous offer to help with my studies. I really appreciate it and hope to keep in touch.
Take care,
We’re currently recruiting volunteer advocates with experience in the social services sector, strong empathy, life experience, and active listening skills and English as a first language.
