Treasurer
This is an ongoing volunteer role with approximately 4-5 hours per week as our Treasurer.
Free Public Advocacy Service (FPAS) is a community based charity, primarily established with an aim of assisting and supporting people in our community.
You’ll have a good understanding of financial matters relating to the role of Treasurer. Some of your responsibilities would include:
- preparing agendas
- reporting issues pertaining to the Trust i.e. due correspondence
- attending training sessions (2 hours per month)
- using Zoom, Xero and payroll
Extensive experience and English as a first language is required.
This is an ongoing volunteer role with approximately 4-5 hours per week and could lead to a paid position for the right person.

Trustee
This is an ongoing volunteer role with approximately 2-3 hours per month volunteering in a Trustee capacity.
Free Public Advocacy Service (FPAS) is a community based charity, primarily established with an aim of assisting and supporting people in our community.
As our Trustee you would be responsible for working with our charitable trusts. You’ll have a good understanding of applications for funding and working knowledge of charitable organisations.
- Some of your responsibilities would include:
- attending trustee meetings (must be available 3 – 4 times a year)
- reporting issues i.e. due correspondence
- taking minutes at trustee meetings
- keeping trustee contact information up to date.
Experience in some of these areas is necessary.
Advocacy Volunteer
Our organisation is currently looking for volunteer advocates.
Assist clients to become aware of their rights and best interests and to ensure that these are protected and recognised at all times. Issues can be small, such as helping people fill out a form or bigger concerns such as helping the client deal with an organisation.
As our Advocate some of your responsibilities would include:
- to assist members of the public to resolve an issue, big or small,
- to help clients become aware of their rights and best interests,
- being available to sit at a clinic desk for approximately 2 hours a week,
- doing paperwork for your clients in your own time with help from other advocates when necessary.
You will work with an experienced Advocate until you are fully confident.
Skills and experience required:
- English as first language
- Experience working in the social services sector.
- Life experience, empathy and listening skills.
- To be able to listen, understand and respond positively to others and show sound judgement.
- To be consistently accurate and to follow specific instructions.
- To show initiative when faced with unusual requests
With the Free Public Advocacy Service, you’re much more than a volunteer – you’re an advocate for others. Helping someone to satisfactorily resolve their issues is a journey which takes time and requires ongoing work and follow-through, really getting to know your clients and understanding their concerns.
